Two day Iranian film festival held at Guru Nanak College, Chennai

 

A two-day Iranian film festival was held in the Visual Communication Department of Guru Nanak College, Chennai on 9th & 10th October, 2018 with the support of Culture House of the I.R of Iran in Mumbai in the presence of chief guest Nawabzada Dr. Mohammed Asif Ali the Dewan to Prince of Arcot, Head of Department of Visual Communication and students seeking to learn about the rich culture of Iran.

At the beginning of the event, Dr. Syed Ali Mujtaba, Head of the Department of Visual Communication expressed his pleasure at being present at this festival and said: “Iranian art films enjoy a global following and have garnered international fame winning many Academy awards and nominations.”

He added: “This film festival is organised with the help of Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, Chennai and Culture House of the I.R. of Iran, Mumbai in order to get acquainted with the country of Iran and to recognize the potential for cultural interactions.”

Following him, Nawabzada Dr. Mohammed Asif Ali said: “Today, cinema has created a suitable place for itself in many societies as an influential art; and directors and artists have been able to beautifully present day-to-day issues that occur in a person"s life using their rich taste.”         

Referring to the cinematic works of Iran he stated: “By presenting sumptuous works, Iranian cinema has been able to hold its own amongst global cinema and I hope that in the future, Iran and India are able to take effective steps towards co-producing cinematic works in order to spread and expand cultural interactions among two great Eastern countries.”

In this festival, six Iranian films were screened namely ‘Raana’s silence’, ‘Mobarak’, ‘Zero to Podium’, ‘The Season of Narges’, ‘We have a guest’ and ‘Hush! The Girls are not yelling’ which were well received by the students of this department.

It is worth mentioning that the news of this festival was printed in local newspaper ‘Trinity Mirror’ on 4th October, 2018. In this news, a brief explanation was given regarding the stories as well as the directors of the films.
