Closing ceremony of Mumbai International Film Festival and selection of an Iranian film

 

Closing ceremony of the 20th Mumbai International Film Festival entitled “Jio MAMI” was held on 1st November in the presence of the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of Maharastra Ms. Nirupama Kotru, Director of Culture House of the I.R. of Iran in Mumbai along with other officials from the Government of Maharashtra, actors, directors and cinema enthusiasts.

 In this ceremony, the top films were given awards while actors and directors in their short speeches expressed their delight at being present at this festival which was organized in association with the Government of Maharashtra.

In this festival, two Iranian films “Reza” directed by Mr. Alireza Motamedi and “3 faces” directed by Mr. Jafar Panahi were screened in the International competition category and World Cinema category respectively.

The jury members presented the Special Mention award in the International competition category to Mr. Alireza Motamedi for being a “triple threat”: writer, actor and director. This Iranian film was awarded for a meditative and poetic look at the estranged marriage carried by the charming lead performance of Mr. Alireza Motamedi. It was announced that due to the positive aspects of the film “Reza” they would like to give Mr. Motamedi a special jury mention. This film from Iran was selected for a special mention among 220 films in this festival.

Iranian director and writer Mr. Alireza Motamedi in his short speech expressed his delight at being present at this festival and hoped that he can continue participating in Indian film festivals with his new films.

The film “Bulbul can sing” directed by Rima Das won the India Gold, Golden Gateway Award at this festival. Rima Das won this award last year as well for her Oscar-nominated film “Village Rockstars” and received funds of Rs. 1 crore from the Assam Government for promoting her film for the Oscars.

In this festival, 220 films from India and other countries such as Germany, South Africa, Iran, etc participated in various categories and the International Competition Category consisted of 12 foreign films.

The Iranian film “Reza” was directed by Mr. Alireza Motamedi in 2016 and was screened for the first time at Fajr International Film Festival. The film “Reza” narrates the life of a man named Reza.
