An Introduction to Iran

IRAN (ایران), also known as Persia, is one of the most ancient countries of the world. It is the land where rings of Asian, European and African civilizations are interconnected. It is widely renowned for the rich diversity of landscapes, climates, monuments, customs and people’s lifestyles. Throughout the years, its culture has influenced different parts of the globe, from the Nile River to the heart of Europe. If it had no other claim to respect, at least a continuous history of more than 2,500 years is a distinction that few countries can exhibit.

The unique geopolitical location of Iran has enabled various forms of culture to interact. This source of grandeur is a legacy of the rich Persian and Islamic culture.

Every Iranian city has some special features that distinguish it from other towns and in every corner of this spacious land there is something to marvel at and to enjoy. The Iranian style of architecture is unique and creative. Piece de resistances such as the Persepolis and the rare extra ordinary edifices of Isfahan as well as the air traps of the central dessert region are the hallmarks of the Iranian architecture.

Iran is the cradle of most religions. It has many religious attractions:

1. The holy Shrine of Imam Reza (P.B.U.H) in Mashhad, the holy Shrine of Masoumeh in Qom and many other mausoleums of the household of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.S) are places for pilgrimage for the Shia Muslims of the globe.
